About the Artist- Sherie Drake

Sheri Drake

Sherie was born near Portland, Oregon and grew up in the Pacific Northwest. She moved to California with her husband where they raised their family in the San Francisco bay area. While in the bay area she studied portrait and figure painting from a gifted artist and instructor, Bob Gerbracht, attended art classes at DeAnza Jr. College and studied with Michael Linstrom a friend and master colorist. 

The family moved to Texas for a brief time where she continued her art education at Austin Community College. After returning to the bay area she obtained a teaching credential at San Jose State University and began teaching portrait and figure classes through Mt. View-Los Altos Adult Education and the Palo Alto Art Center. She continued her education by resuming her studies with Michael Linstrom and attending workshops given by painters with highest artistic achievements:   Albert Handel, Charles Sovek, Daniel Greene and Clark Mitchel.

After teaching art classes for ten years she retired with her husband and moved to Sonora, California in the Sierra Mountain foothills.  She has established a Studio and Gallery in downtown Sonora where she paints and shows her work.  Sherie continues to further her education by participating in local workshops with gifted painters such as, Diana Boyd, Charles Waldman, Jeanette La Grue, Milford Zornes and Rief Erikson

Sherie exhibited her work at the Main Street Gallery in Murphy’s, California and she continues to show work at the Aloft and Post galleries in Sonora. She has won numerous awards at juried art competitions including shows at the Mistlin Gallery in Modesto, the Haggin museum in Stockton, California and annual Mother Lode Art Association exhibit in Sonora.

Sherie approaches the canvas with color and vitality.  Although pastel was her favorite for years she now enjoys painting in acrylic and oils. She works on a variety of subjects using color expressively in portrait and figures.
